TITLE: Airport Customs Declaration Test Extended for Two Years

WHAT HAPPENED: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is extending a test program at airports for two more years. The program changes the first step of the customs process. It lets travelers show quickly that they have nothing to declare, which in some cases replaces having to speak or write a declaration.

WHO IT AFFECTS: All travelers arriving in the United States by air, including immigrants, visa holders, and U.S. citizens.

WHAT TO DO NOW: No action is needed now. When you arrive, pay attention to signs and CBP officers’ instructions. You must still declare any items you are bringing if the law requires it. If you have anything to declare, tell a CBP officer. There is no deadline or form to fill out before your trip.
