WHAT IT IS:

Form G-28 is the paper that lets a lawyer or an accredited representative officially tell USCIS they are helping you with your immigration case. Once accepted, that person can speak for you, file papers, and receive notices about your application, petition, or appeal.

WHO NEEDS IT:

If you are the person applying for an immigration benefit (the applicant, petitioner, or respondent) and you have hired an attorney or are using an accredited representative, that helper must file this form. It is not for you to file alone — your representative submits it together with your main case.

HOW TO FILE:

1. Your attorney or accredited representative downloads Form G-28 from the official USCIS website.

2. They fill out the form with information about their eligibility to represent you.

3. They print the form and make sure every page comes from the same form edition, with the edition date and page numbers visible at the bottom. (If pages are mixed or missing, USCIS may reject the form.)

4. Both the representative and you (the applicant, petitioner, requestor, or respondent) must sign the form. An unsigned form will be rejected.

5. The completed Form G-28 is filed together with your related application, petition, or appeal — never by itself. Mail it according to the instructions for that main form. Before mailing, read USCIS’s “Tips for Filing Forms by Mail” to avoid common mail-in problems.

COMMON MISTAKES:

- Mixing pages from different editions: Make sure every page you submit comes from the same edition.

- Missing signatures: The form must be signed by both the representative and the person they are helping. If either signature is missing, USCIS will reject it.

- Filing Form G-28 alone: It must be included with the application, petition, or appeal it relates to.
