Form I-824: Action on Approved Application or Petition

TITLE: Form I-824: Action on Approved Application or Petition

WHAT IT IS:

Form I-824 is the application to ask USCIS for additional action on a case that was already approved. You cannot use this form while your case is still being decided (pending) or if it was denied. USCIS will not process the form in those situations.

WHO NEEDS IT:

You need this form if you have an approved USCIS application or petition and you want the agency to take a further step. Do not file Form I-824 if your case is pending or was denied. (For specific actions you can request, check the official instructions.)

HOW TO FILE:

1. Get the current form. Download it from www.uscis.gov/i-824 (see “Form Details” for the edition date).

2. Fill out every section completely. You must enter your approved case’s receipt number in Part 3 — this number is on your Form I-797, Notice of Action (the approval notice).

3. Sign the form. An unsigned form will be rejected.

4. (Optional) Ask for e-notification. If you want an email or text message when USCIS accepts your form, complete Form G-1145 and clip it to the first page of your I-824.

5. Mail the form to the correct address. Look up the direct filing address for Form I-824 on the USCIS page (see “Direct Filing Addresses for Form I-824”). Using the wrong address can cause delays.

FEES:

(check the official fee schedule) — USCIS directs you to its Fee Schedule page. No fee amount or fee-waiver information is given here.

CURRENT EDITION & DEADLINES:

Form edition: 04/01/24 (mm/dd/yy format). Use only this edition; pages from a different edition or missing pages may cause rejection. No filing deadline is mentioned — (check the official instructions for any time limits that apply to your situation).

COMMON MISTAKES:

- Using an old or wrong edition of the form (always download the 04/01/24 version).

- Forgetting to sign the form — unsigned forms are rejected.

- Leaving the receipt number blank in Part 3 (the number from your I-797 approval notice).

- Mailing to an outdated or wrong address, which leads to delays.

WHERE TO GET THE FORM:

Always get the form from the official USCIS page: https://www.uscis.gov/i-824
