WHAT HAPPENED: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has proposed raising the fee for Form I-246, Application for a Stay of Deportation or Removal, from $155 to $755. This is only a proposal — it is not a final rule yet.
WHO IT AFFECTS: Immigrants who need to ask U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for a "stay" (a temporary pause) of their deportation or removal.
WHAT TO DO NOW:
- If you file Form I-246 today, the fee is still $155. Do not pay the new amount.
