TITLE: Mandatory Electronic Filing (e-Filing) Rule Effective August 11, 2026

WHAT HAPPENED: On August 11, 2026, a new rule began that lets USCIS require online (electronic) filing for some applications. USCIS will later announce which exact forms must be filed online.

WHO IT AFFECTS: Anyone who will apply for an immigration benefit with USCIS (like a green card, work permit, citizenship, or other request). At this time, no specific form is yet required to be e-filed.

WHAT TO DO NOW:

• Watch the USCIS website for future announcements about mandatory online filing.

• If you cannot file online (for example, no computer or internet access), you may request a waiver (an exception). USCIS will explain how to ask for a waiver when it announces a mandatory e-filing form.

• You do not need to change how you file today, but be ready to use e-filing in the future.
